First Communion 2026 Registration • St Peter Chanel Catholic Parish of Waimakariri

This formation programme is for families who reside in the Waimakariri area who have a child that would like to be further initiated into the Catholic Church, through preparing for and receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Your child needs to be baptised and 8 years old by Easter (5th April 2026).

The programme will take place on Sunday mornings 9:00 -11:45 at St Patrick’s, Kaiapoi commencing Sunday the 22nd of February. It begins with attending parish Mass and then formation sessions for both child and parent/s. These sessions will support and guide you as parents, as you prepare your child to receive the sacraments.

The programme requires a commitment to attend every Sunday (as listed below) and completing the parent and child home activities.

The Catholic Church has a long understanding that parent's are to be the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith. This is especially true as you consider your child's participation in the Sacramental life of the Church. Therefore, we ask you to prayerfully consider if you will commit yourselves to helping your child grow in faith and holiness, through an ongoing commitment to your faith journey and involvement in parish life. It is our expectation that you and you family:

Are at Mass each Sunday of the Programme
Attend all the Sunday preparation classes
Make the course material and the meetings a first priority

The cost of the programme is $75. This covers the weekly running costs of the programme plus each child receives a Youcat, a really great resource that will be used during class sessions and for homework.

Baptism Certificate: Please send a copy of your Child's Baptism certificate through to evangelisation@waimakariricatholic.org.nz if your child was not baptised at St Peter Chanel Parish. If your child was baptised in the Waimakariri Parish please provide the date of Baptism.
